Cuomo Banishes Conservatives

Imagine for a second: a Republican governor calls out ‘pro-gay, anti-life, anti-2nd Amendment’ liberals and banishes them from his state. As quickly as the words leave his mouth, MSNBC, The Huffington Post, and ThinkProgress run stories about the GOP’s bigoted, hateful message. Now imagine a Democratic governor says the same thing, except instead of targeting pro-gay, anti-life, anti-2nd Amendment liberals, he denounces “right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay” conservatives. The media takes no notice and the scandal vanishes as quickly as it appeared.

Sound familiar? It should, at least to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Clearly, living in one of the nation’s bluest states has its perks. When you attack conservatives, no one cares. Just ask the dear governor what he thinks: “Who are they [New York Republicans]? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.” At least he was being candid, right?

We can learn a couple things from Cuomo’s ridiculous outburst. First, conservatives are not welcome in New York. The governor thinks we took his words out of context, but I think not: “If that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York…” Second, the mainstream media cares more about traffic jams than a governor telling a third of his population to leave the state. Third, anyone who supports a man or woman’s “right-to-life” is an extreme conservative. In other words, the “March for Life” is a collection of crazy people who secretly plan to take over the world and defend human dignity.

I don’t want to waste any more time on Governor Cuomo. He said something stupid and got away with it. What’s new? We all know what happens if the letter following his name changes from a ‘D’ to an ‘R’. It’s unfortunate, but so is the truth. The time will come when the media finally takes Democrats to task for the things they’ve said (I hope); until that day, we must do our part to show the world just how intolerant the party of tolerance has become. If we don’t do it, no one will.
